Issues: Downtown Developent

There is a lot of energy and excitement about the downtown. Lexington is moving in the right direction, with renewed interest in entertainment and the arts, new developments that provide housing and businesses and larger projects that will enhance the quality of life in Lexington. It is imperative, however, that new development be done right. We have no more room for mistakes in our downtown.

Old Courthouse on Main Street

A vibrant downtown makes a community more attractive to high tech businesses and attracts talented people to our community. It will keep our own young people from leaving Lexington to pursue their dreams in more supportive cities.

As we embark on infill and redevelopment we need to make sure we are careful that it is done with thought given to how it will impact the existing structures and be carefully planned. Lexington must be creative, learn from our mistakes, learn from successful projects in other communities and look forward to make Lexington economically viable today, tomorrow, and for years to come.

I will work to ensure that every square inch of our downtown is carefully planned and used to the best benefit of the community.

I will work to find grant opportunities and to ensure that tax incentives available for downtown development projects are put to the maximum benefit and health of Lexington.
